temporary
Treated or untreated, it depends on where you are using it. Treated lumber needs to be used whenever lumber comes in contact with concrete, so for instance, your sill plate will need to be treated. As far as the size of the number, 2x4, 2x6, or whatever, you should have established that when you placed your foundation anchors. If you didn't, it's now officially too late! But that's okay, you can use a hammer drill to place your anchors properly if you didn't do it when the concrete was wet. If you're using 2x6 lumber, the centerline of your anchors should be 2 3/4" in from the OUTSIDE edge of your foundation. This is so the sill plate sits directly on the outside edge of the foundation, and the OSB sheathing will be past the edge of the foundation. OSB sheathing will soak up water like a sponge if there is something below it for the water to sit on, this will quickly destroy the OSB. For this reason, the bottom of your OSB should be hanging freely and not sitting on concrete or soil.

Advertising and Ad Blocking Software
This web site cannot exist without advertising, it is what pays for our time, hosting fees, and other expenses. The price you pay for having free and open access to this information is that you have to see some advertisements. The ads are targeted specifically to this web site, and typically represent excellent discounts or coupons for construction projects or tools. This web site can only continue to exist if visitors view advertisements. If you have ad blocking software installed, please consider this fact. This web site DOES NOT have pop up ads, "you have just won $1,000,000" ads, or any of that garbage. Building-A-Garage.com has ads from real businesses that want to help with your projects, plain and simple. So do all of us a favor and turn off the ad-blocking software. If you happen to go to a web site that bothers you with pop up ads and other garbage, don't go to that web site anymore, and send them a complaint via email if you have the time. THAT IS THE BEST AD BLOCKING THERE IS.

How to Build a Garage
I recently built my own three car 32'x24' wood frame garage with almost no prior construction experience. I am creating this web site to explain how you can build a garage or other wood building yourself.
You can use this web site to help you understand the process for building:
- A garage.
- A shed.
- A workshop.
- A house (hope you have some help for this one!)
If you are using a builder or contractors to do the labor, this site can help you understand the process better, ensuring that your project is completed to your satisfaction and on budget.
In this site I will attempt to detail every aspect of constructing a framed wooden building with concrete perimeter foundation, including:
- Initial planning and financial issues
- Obtaining garage plans, blueprints, and permits
- Foundation
- Framing
- Roof
- Installing doors
- Siding and Finishing
I'm still adding articles to this site on a regular basis, and I'm currently working on the wall framing section. I will also be adding more photos and graphics to help explain things a bit better.
Next, select a Subject to jump to the section you need information on.
